FLORIDA BAY MODEL

The Florida Bay model was initiated as an exploratory proof-of-concept exercise with support from the Everglades National Park, National Park Service. The model has since been extended to 3-D and to include a dynamically coupled salinity model. In the present application, the model is run in 2-D mode and the results are shown for salinities at monthly interval for a 2-year "generic" simulation.  The simulation is called generic because inflows are not obtained from data but are prescribed as shown in the accompanying figure and chosen to resemble a presumed realistic runoff hydrograph scenario into Northeast Florida Bay under existing conditions. In addition, the model includes precipitation, evaporation, tides, and wind. The results show many qualitative features in agreement with observations; however, a careful study to properly validate the model should be a future research objective.
