Research Interests:
Experimental ocean acoustics, signal processing and instrument development. Ocean acoustic measurements of reverberation scattering and long range low-frequency propagation. Development of autonomous imaging sonorous for observing marine organisms.
Goals:
Understanding of the randomizing effects
on acoustic propagation of fluctuations of the propagation medium and scattering
from the irregular ocean bottom.
Research programs:
Development of self contained source and
receiver systems that can be moored at sea for periods of several months
(ASREX). Measurements of shallow water acoustic propagation (FSRTE).
Analysis and interpretation of data with acoustic propagation models. Applications
of inverse methods.
